About CBD & Hemp
CBD (cannabidiol) is just one of more than 100 cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. Other cannabinoids include CBG, THC, and CBN. CBD is non-intoxicating and known for supporting the body and mind through the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is a complex biological system in your body that helps regulate functions like sleep, mood, appetite, and immune response. CBD interacts with receptors in this system to help maintain balance and wellness. Unlike THC, CBD does not produce a “high” and is legal under federal law when derived from hemp containing less than 0.3% THC.
Hemp is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant that’s grown specifically for industrial and commercial uses. In the United States, it’s legally defined as cannabis containing less than 0.3% THC. Cannabidiol (CBD), on the other hand, is a specific chemical compound found in cannabis plants, including hemp. It’s one of over 100 cannabinoids in the plant. CBD is non-intoxicating, commonly used in wellness products, and is frequently studied for its various potential therapeutic effects.
So, hemp is a source of CBD. Most CBD products sold legally are derived from hemp plants because of their low THC content. However, hemp contains many other compounds besides CBD, and you can have hemp products (like hemp fiber or hemp seeds) that contain little to no CBD.
Think of it this way: hemp is the plant, CBD is one of the beneficial compounds that can be extracted from that plant.
The entourage effect is a theory that cannabis compounds work better together than in isolation — meaning the various cannabinoids, terpenes, and other plant compounds interact synergistically to produce stronger or more balanced effects than any single compound alone. Full-spectrum hemp is the cream of the crop because it contains all the cannabinoids, terpenes, and other compounds that naturally occur in the plant, including a small amount of THC. The scientific evidence for the entourage effect is still emerging, however, and more research is needed to fully understand it.
No, hemp and marijuana are not the same, though they’re both varieties of Cannabis sativa and look, smell, and taste similar. The key difference is THC content: hemp contains 0.3% THC or less (the legal threshold in the U.S.), while marijuana contains more than 0.3% THC, often 5-30% or higher. This crucial distinction makes hemp legal at the federal level while marijuana remains a controlled substance in many jurisdictions.
Bottom line: they’re cousins from the same plant family bred for different purposes — hemp won’t get you high due to its low THC content, while marijuana is specifically cultivated for its psychoactive properties.
CBD dosing is highly individual and depends on factors like body weight, metabolism, desired effects, and the condition you’re addressing. Most people start with 10-20mg of CBD per day and gradually increase until they find their optimal dose. It’s best to start low and go slow, giving your body time to adjust. Always consult with a healthcare professional, especially if you’re taking other medications.
CBD typically stays in your system for 2-5 days, though this can vary based on several factors. Frequency of use, dosage, metabolism, body mass, and method of consumption all play a role. Regular users may retain CBD in their system for longer periods (up to a week or more), while occasional users typically clear it within 2-3 days. For drug testing purposes, remember that full-spectrum products contain trace THC, which can remain detectable for much longer than CBD itself.
Yes, hemp-derived CBD products containing less than 0.3% THC are legal at the federal level under the 2018 Farm Bill. However, some states have additional restrictions or regulations. The vast majority of states allow hemp-derived CBD products, but it’s always wise to check your specific state laws. All Metta Hemp products comply with federal regulations and contain less than 0.3% THC, but some products cannot be shipped to certain states.
CBD is generally well-tolerated, but some people may experience mild side effects like dry mouth, drowsiness, reduced appetite, and diarrhea. These effects are typically mild and often diminish as your body adjusts. CBD can also interact with certain medications, particularly blood thinners. If you’re taking prescription medications or have underlying health conditions, consult your healthcare provider before using CBD products.
Hemp oil and CBD oil are unique products. Hemp seed oil is extracted from hemp seeds and contains little to no CBD. It’s rich in omega fatty acids and used primarily for nutritional purposes and in cosmetics. CBD oil, on the other hand, is extracted from the flowers, leaves, and stalks of the hemp plant and contains significant amounts of CBD and other cannabinoids. When shopping for CBD products, make sure the label specifies CBD content in milligrams to ensure you’re getting what you’re looking for.
Product Types & Consumption Methods
Full-spectrum means that the product contains all of the available cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes naturally found in the hemp plant, including CBD and THC. If you want to enjoy maximum benefits, including the entourage effect, full-spectrum CBD is the best choice.
Broad-spectrum means that the product contains all of the available cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes except THC. It’s ideal for THC-sensitive users wanting to enjoy multiple cannabinoids.
Isolate means the product contains only one specific cannabinoid, such as CBD, CBG, or CBN, and nothing else. It does not contain THC. If you’re looking for the purest experience, isolate may be right for you.
Smoking or vaporizing is seen as the fastest way to get hemp into your system, as your body does not have to process the hemp through your digestive system. Effects typically begin within 5-10 minutes. Due to this immediacy, you can easily adjust your dose as needed. Your body also receives a higher amount of cannabinoids through smoking or vaping when compared to consuming edibles.
These are both types of extractions of the hemp plant that preserve maximum flavor and potency.
True live resin is created using freshly cut or frozen hemp plants. Traditionally, dried and cured hemp does not qualify as live resin. The fresh plant extraction of live resin preserves its high concentration of terpenes, which are aromatic compounds that give the product its scent and flavor. Live resin is created using hydrocarbon extraction equipment (propane or butane) and naturally contains 3 to 5% THC. Because a finished hemp product made to vape or smoke can contain a maximum of 0.3% THC by law, products can only include up to 10% live resin to remain compliant. Edible and topical hemp products, on the other hand, can be made using pure live resin.
Rosin is a highly rated hemp concentrate because its extraction process only requires heat and pressure, avoiding harsh solvents that could potentially remain in the final product. When extracted properly, it retains terpenes and essential parts of the hemp plant that would otherwise be destroyed through traditional distillation. Similar to live resin, it contains 2 to 5% THC. So, finished hemp products designed to vape or smoke can by law only contain a maximum of 10% hemp rosin to remain within the 0.3% THC limit. However, edible and topical hemp products can be made using all rosin.
Why might you choose live resin or rosin? Both products boast enhanced flavor profiles, higher terpene content, and premium quality. In addition, rosin uses a cleaner extraction process.
In a broad sense, these terms refer to the effects that the strain produces when you consume it.
Sativa is known to be uplifting or energizing, making it ideal for daytime use, creative activities, social situations, and productivity. Indica, on the other hand, is known to make you feel tired or more “chill,” which makes it popular for evening use, relaxation, sleep support, and stress relief. Hybrids offer a blend of both, providing balanced effects that can be tailored to different needs and preferences.
Terpenes are the primary compounds responsible for the plant’s aroma and flavor. Hemp-derived (cannabis) terpenes are extracted directly from the hemp plant and are very expensive but provide the most authentic experience. Botanical terpenes are naturally derived from non-hemp plants (oranges, pine trees, pepper, etc.) and mimic classic weed strains at a more affordable price point.
Proper storage is essential to maintain the quality and potency of your hemp products. Aim for the following best practices:
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
- Keep at room temperature (60-70°F)
- Seal tightly after each use
- Store vape cartridges upright to prevent leaking
- Avoid bathrooms, cars, or areas with temperature fluctuations
When stored properly, most hemp products maintain their quality for 12-24 months.
Safety & Compliance
Short answer: Yes, if you’re using full-spectrum products.
Long answer: Full-spectrum hemp contains trace amounts of THC (under 0.3%), which can appear on standard drug tests. If you consume a full-spectrum hemp product, you should plan to fail a drug test that checks for THC.
However, there are THC-free hemp products on the market. These are also known as isolates or broad-spectrum hemp. You are much less likely to fail a drug test if you use products that contain no THC, but there will never be a 100% guarantee. We always recommend erring on the side of caution if you’re subject to drug testing.
The minimum age to purchase products on this website is 21. A signature is not required upon delivery for most products. Instead, we use an age verification software during checkout to verify your age. However, because vapes are legally age-restricted to 21+, someone 21 or over (with a government-issued ID) must sign upon delivery. This adds $7 to each vape order and is necessary to comply with the PACT Act.
